Until we have a new calendar editor, please direct your event listings to me.

You have a chance to be our group's calendar editor! Here's another look at the requirements. The Calendar Editor receives event listings and readies the text and graphic forms of the calendar for publication, following the style guide. The next step is transmitting the calendar to me in a form that is ready for insertion into the newsletter. This requires an individual who likes to interact with people and keeps track of the details. Please get in touch with me if you are interested in this important part of producing Momentum.

Although it has no direct effect on the issue you are reading, this month marks the start of a Vermont edition of Momentum. Vermont Mensa has not had a regular newsletter for a while and we are trying to give them a boost. Thanks to Publisher Ric Werme for researching the postal ramifications of having two editions and adding this to the behind the scenes work involved in maintaining our periodicals permit and producing mailing labels each month.

Our appointed officer positions are filling up! The two newest are Maine Gifted Children Coordinator Ann Kucera and Public Relations Officer Ken Sanborn. As I write this, a member has also expressed interest in the GCC position for New Hampshire - stay tuned.

Sue Barnes has volunteered to chair of our 2003 Regional Gathering. The 2002 edition she chaired was a success and this is a great start for next year. To get in on the ground floor planning our biggest event of the year, contact Sue.

John Bauman and Cynthia Jane Collins were appointed as proctors by AML on April 26. They join Bill Alleman, Marty Capodice, Leslie Dame, Ann Kucera, Laurie Levesque, Fran Tishkevich and Joe Zanca in our growing proctor network. Laurie is also Proctor Coordinator, which means that she keeps our testing program going and our proctor network growing.

Local membership fell off 17 percent at the end of March, lower than the national lapse rate of 20 percent. After several years of being at or above the national lapse rate that is a good direction.

'Tis Summer and the slimy toads do gire and gimmer on their way. Somehow, a friend's interpretation of a line from Alice in Wonderland has stuck in my head for over 20 years. However, if you want to plan for your summer, you might want to check out the following events:

AG 2002 July 3-7 in Scottsdale, Arizona. Registration is $75 until June 15. This should be an interesting gathering. The Scottsdale Fairmont Princess Resort is $89 a night. I believe it is just about sold out but the alternate site is actually cheaper. Check out the web site at us.mensa.org for more details. This is your opportunity to meet a wide variety of Mensans and attend some wonderful speaker events.

If you prefer to stay closer to home consider coming to RG in Binghamton "Most Fun In Central New York" August 16 - 18 in Ithaca, N.Y. Registration $40 to 6/16, $45 to 7/16, $50 after. MP (3) included. SR/DR/TR/QR $89 plus tax. Room rates guaranteed through 8/18; must mention Mensa. Checks payable to Most Fun RG. H, RP, DT, H/AS.

Remember that Mid-Hudson Mensa is having its gathering "Autumn In New York 15" September 20 - 22 at the SUNY Field Campus at the Ashokan Reservoir in Woodstock, N.Y. Registration $130 to 8/31; $140 after. MP (6) included. Checks payable to Mid-Hudson Mensa RG. S RP to 9/20 DT. Naturally, I'm partial to this event as I've been hospitality chair there for several years. I'm particularly peeved that I can't attend due to an AMC meeting in Nebraska. Let's see - choices, 10 hours of meetings in Nebraska, or an RG in New York. Which would I prefer? Can you guess?

You might also plan to attend a Leadership Development Workshop scheduled for the weekend of September 28th in the triple cities area. As of now, plans are still being finalized as to whether it'll be in Binghamton or Johnson City. But if you can reserve that date and see about getting involved / revitalized / motivated / re-motivated about your role in Mensa this would be an event to attend. We haven't had an LDW in Region 1 for several years. More details will be coming about this later.

Katie Hooten has joined the Mensa Team as the new Communications Director / Managing Editor for the Bulletin. We wish her success in her new assignment. Julie Boone is now employed by a children's hospital. Hopefully, being an editor of the Bulletin doesn't lead to everyone ending up in a hospital!

Please feel free to contact me about any Mensa issues that you might have. I greatly appreciate those who let me know about what they think about various items on the AMC agenda or any Mensa concerns.
